As the World Cup is taking place in Russia, a country currently slaughtering Syrian civilians and illegally occupying the Ukraine, such human rights violators as Iran and Nigeria participate with no criticism of their governments’ policies.  But one of the teams in the tournament chose to make a political statement before the competition began, Argentina chose to cancel their scheduled match with Israel, in Jerusalem.  The BDS Movement exerted enormous pressure on the Argentina Football Federation, and it worked.  As Ambassador Danny Ayalon says, “Leave politics out of sports.”
